Handmade Flamework Jewelry
I am a flamework glass artist in Saint John, NB (formerly Vancouver Island, BC) in Canada. I make handmade flamework jewelry by melting glass rods, shaping and forming the glass, and adding other colored glass for designs. I add sterling silver findings to create original pieces of jewelry ( jewellery is technically how we spell it here in Canada, but you'll see me use "jewelry" to stay consistent with Etsy terminology). So the end result is a beautiful piece of handmade glass jewelry that is ready to wear.
Rollin in the deep... ice cream scoop filled with frit.
I thought it might be nice to show an example of creating a bead. I started with a white base glass and then rolled in Val Cox's Violet Storm frit.

Once the frit is melted into the bead and sufficiently rolled into shape, it is placed into a kiln for ~3.5 hours and then left to cool. As you can see it is difficult to see the colors until the bead actually cools. Bead in bottom middle picture is the cooled finished bead you see being created in the above pictures. I clean the bead release out with a rotary tool and diamond bits, and then add sterling silver findings to create a lovely set of earrings.
